Bernard B. Kerik
Commissioner Kerik began his career volunteering for the U.S. Army where he earned his GED, and served in the Military Police Corps in Korea and at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. There he taught defensive tactics at the John F. Kennedy Unconventional Warfare Center, to U.S. Special Forces and special operations personnel. After his military service, he spent four years in various security assignments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 1981, he joined the Passaic County Sheriff's Department in New Jersey, where he served as the Commander of Special Weapons and Operations and as Warden of the Passaic County Jail.
In 1986, he joined the New York City Police Department where his meteoric rise to the top was historic. Following uniformed patrol and plain-clothes assignments in Times Square, he was promoted to detective and assigned to the narcotics division's major case unit. In 1991 he was transferred to the U.S. Justice Department's New York Drug Enforcement Task Force, responsible for overseeing one of the most far-reaching drug investigations in New York history.
For close to six years, Mr. Kerik served as First Deputy and later Commissioner of the New York City Department of Correction. He was responsible for overseeing the New York City jail system, including Rikers Island, one of the largest and most violent jail systems in the country. Under his command, the department achieved historic reductions in inmate-on-inmate violence, and earned international recognition for violence reduction, efficiency, accountability, and correctional excellence.
In August 2000, Mr. Kerik was appointed the 40th Police Commissioner of the City of New York, responsible for 55,000 civilian and uniform personnel, and a $3.2 billion budget. His term was marked by dramatic reductions in crime, enhanced community relations, and his unflinching leadership and oversight, as he led New York City through the devastating attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11, overseeing the rescue, recovery and investigation. In 2001, he was one of the founding members of the Board of Trustees of the Twin Towers Fund.
After retiring from the NYPD, and following the fall of Saddam Hussein, Mr. Kerik accepted a request by the White House to lead Iraq's provisional government's efforts to reconstitute the Iraqi Interior Ministry, which consisted of its national police service and intelligence, customs and immigration, and border police. He subsequently served as a national security advisor to His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and President Bharrat Jagdeo of the Republic of Guyana. Mr. Kerik has conducted threat and vulnerability assessments for other heads of state, and led crime reduction, national security, and management accountability assessments for the U.S. Justice Department, Trinidad and Tobago as well as Mexico City.
Mr. Kerik is a 5th Degree Master Instructor in the martial arts, studying both Korean and Japanese Karate. He holds a B.S. in Social Theory, Social Structure and Change from the State University of New York (ESC), and has attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government's Leadership Program for the 21st Century at Harvard University. Mr. Kerik is the bestselling author of "The Lost Son: A Life in Pursuit of Justice" and "The Grave Above the Grave".
On December 3, 2004, President George W. Bush nominated Mr. Kerik as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. One week later, Mr. Kerik withdrew his name from consideration, after admitting that he failed to pay payroll tax for his children’s nanny.
Five years of state and federal investigations followed. Mr. Kerik pled guilty to false statements and tax charges primarily related to his children’s nanny and discounted apartment renovations. He was sentenced to 48 months in federal prison. He surrendered to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons at a minimum-security prison camp in Cumberland, Maryland on May 17, 2010, and was released from custody on October 15, 2013. He wrote the critically acclaimed book “From Jailer to Jailed” about his experiences.
Jeffrey H. Ostrie
Mr. Ostrie has over 45 years experience in the security and investigations industries working both in the private sector and with law enforcement agencies.
He was the Senior Vice President of Virgin Security Services a member of the Virgin Atlantic Group, he is a world wide recognized expert in the field of aviation security. He performed his duties in this position both in the United States and in over 12 different foreign countries.
He spent many years assigned to a federal task force that countered the threat of bio-terrorism and secured the New York City water supply. He has extensive experience in investigations pertaining to environmental crimes. He has been trained in hazardous waste investigation. He is Safety Certified in Emergency and Remedial Responses to Hazardous Material incidents.
Mr Ostrie also has extensive experience as an undercover operative and in the field of Executive Protection.
He served in the United States Army from 1961 through 1963 and the United States Army Reserve from 1963 to 1967.
The Honorable Joseph E. Schmitz
Joseph E. Schmitz served as a foreigh policy/national security advisor to Donald J. Trump from March 2016 through the November election. He served as the fifth Senate-confirmed Inspector General of the Department of Defense from April 2002 to September 2005. As such, he was agency head of the most expansive Inspector General Organization in the world, with statutory policy oversight responsibility for roughly 60,000 auditors, investigators, inspectors, law enforcement officers, and oversight professionals throughout the Department of Defense. For his service as Inspector General of the Department of Defense, Mr. Schmitz was awarded the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the highest honorary award presented by the Secretary of Defense to non-career federal employees.
Prior to his service as Inspector General of the Department of Defense, Mr. Schmitz was a Partner in the international law firm of Patton Boggs, LLP. and at the same time a Captain in the United States Naval Reserves, serving as Inspector General of the Naval Reserve Intelligence Command. He has extensive experience in overseeing compliance with various international and security-related laws, including but not limited to the Inspector General Act, Intelligence Oversight Laws, the Posse Comitatus Act, the Foreign Corrupt Policies Act (FCPA), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and laws administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons.
Mr. Schmitz co-founded the law firm of Schmitz & Socarras, LLP in October 2014. Before that, he served as CEO of Joseph E. Schmitz, PLLC, a veteran-owned small business law firm he founded in 2008. From September 2005 through December 2008, Mr. Schmitz served as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of the Prince Group in McClean, Virginia. From January 2009 through April 2010 he served as Managing Director in the Washington D.C. Office of Freeh Group International. His pre-Inspector General public service included twenty seven years of naval service, first on active duty and then as a reserve officer; law clerk to the Honorable James L. Buckley, Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit; and Special Assistant to the Attorney General of the United States, the Honorable Edwin Meese III.
Mr. Schmitz has published numerous articles and has testified as a constitutional expert before the U.S. Senate Governmental Affairs and Judiciary Committees. From 1995 until 2002, he was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center, where he developed and taught a seminar on advanced Constitutional Law. He is an alumnus of the American Council on Germany Young Leaders Program, the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies and the International Association of Independent Private Sector Inspectors General.
In May 2013, the Center for Security Policy Press published Mr. Schmitz' latest book, "The Inspector General Handbook: Fraud, Waste, Abuse and other Constitutional 'Enemies Foreign and Domestic'," as the first practical handbook that answers the questions, "By What Authority?" and "For What Purpose?" American Inspectors General do what they do. This new Inspector General Handbook is designed to be useful to both IG professionals and to other military, civilian government, and corporate leaders, including general counsel, who sooner of later will need to work intelligently with the Inspector General.
Mr. Schmitz graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1978, and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Stanford University in 1986. He is a Senior Fellow for the Center for Security Policy, and a regular Newsmax "Insider" on constitutional issues under the banner, "Support and Defend". In 2010, he was selected by the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition as one of 28 Community Leadership Awardees, and in 2013 he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Virginia Chapter) as an "Outstanding American".
Fluent in Arabic and English, Mr. Almasmary coordinates all operations and support in the middle east as well as representing services to Arabic clients. As a New York City Police officer he was part of the massive joint task force that conducted the September 11 investigation. With over 200 arrests he was a highly decorated member of the Department for 8 years prior to moving on to the private industry.
John A. Curley
Mr. Curley has thirty plus years of experience in the investigation and security field. His investigative background is in Civil, Criminal and Matrimonial investigations. His diverse experience spans trial preparation, surveillance, custody cases, criminal and negligence investigations, asset investigations as well as many other areas in this field. He has worked as an undercover investigator and has extensive experience in in security services.
Prior to forming his own agency in 1995 he was the coordinator for the special investigations unit at Virgin Security Services, Inc. Prior to that position with Virgin, he was their regional security supervisor.
He is known for his unique approach to investigative work and his problem solving abilities.
John had his first novel "Bonds" published in October of 2018. He is also the author of several published short stories, with a collection to be released for publication later in 2019. His short stories can also be seen monthly in "Aces" magazine.
Will is a Forensic Investigations Analyst nationwide. He has performed forensic analysis of e-mail and files in a capital murder case, in Texas/Mississippi. He also performed forensic analysis of e-mail leading to recovery of a runaway minor in Houston, TX. Will also does forensic data recovery and investigation for private citizens; internet usage of minor child per parental request, and has worked doing forensic data recovery and analysis for financial fraud of approximately $300,000.00 for a company in Dallas, TX. Will has conducted undercover investigations for corporate clients suspecting employee use of company resources to download child pornography. Will can recommend enhancements to corporate security and corporate security policies, as well as action plans for implementation. He can also investigate security vulnerabilities and create plans to minimize them. Will has experience researching "hacker" tools from the Internet and testing and applying vendor-supplied software patches. He can also perform vulnerability testing of corporate technology resources across Windows NT platforms using a variety of tools, and develop corporate security standards for Windows servers and workstations, as well as servers running Solaris.
Will has also worked as a consultant, as both an onsite and remote Network Consultant, developing and implementing small business networks and personal computer training in the workforce. He has provided onsite Desktop Support for migration from Windows 3.1 to Windows 98 and network and Desktop conversion and implementation from Macintosh to Windows 2000 environment. Will has experience in Disaster Recovery Planning and Implementation, Data Recovery, End User Security Procedures Design and Implementation and Network Security Policies and Procedures. He was the Team Leader of a Relocation Project (200+ users and machines), in addition to moving AS400s between three locations. He was also Development Team Lead for Policies and Procedures in the use of Personal Computers within major petroleum companies.
Ronald J. Gorsline
Mr. Gorsline is a twenty year US Navy SEAL veteran with a wide array of training and operational experience in Maritime Security and Investigations. He has worked as close personal protection for high level VIPs conducting surveillance and counter surveillance training and operations for various US Government Agencies. He has carried out ship and port security vulnerability assessments in accordance with governing regulations to include ISPS and MTSA. He developed ship and port security plans for several passenger cruise lines and container shipping companies. Mr. Gorsline has provided training to several police SWAT units in Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations to become proficient in conducting ship take downs. He has also assisted in the training Maryland’s Calvert County Sheriff’s SWAT unit in support of the Cove Point LNG Platform. Mr. Gorsline has provided security analysis on proposed sites for Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) terminals in Rhode Island and Massachusetts for the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office. He also provided Maritime Security Consulting services for Nova Chemicals, on the Ohio River in Western Pennsylvania. Additionally, he has conducted port security assessments in Mina Sulman Manama Bahrain, Mombasa Kenya, all ports in Latvia, Puerto Bolivar Colombia.
With his experience and years of continuing education Mr. Gorsline is a worldwide recognized expert in the fields of Maritime Security and Investigations. He has TS security clearance.
Mr. Hiler is a senior human resources professional with over twenty years experience in both union and non-union environments, working with both Fortune 100 and Start-Up Businesses both nationally and internationally. He graduated with distinction from the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York with an M.S. Degree in Human Resources Management. He holds an undergraduate degree with The University of Scranton, P.A.
Mr. Hiler is highly skilled in all human resources disciplines including; organizations development & change, employee and labor relations, benefits management, legal compliance, safety/workers’ compensation, total rewards, performance management, staffing/succession planning and learning He has a proven ability to adapt and develop creative solutions for issues impacting organizational development & change with a skilled generalist/employee relations perspective on strategic, operational realignment issues.
He is our lead on investigations pertaining to workplace incidents such as violence or sexual harassment. He has years of experinece in auditing human resources departments and ensuring they operate at the most current level possible.
MacYoung grew up among, and spent the last 50 years dealing with people who used violence and weapons to get what they wanted. His lifestyle and professions have always put him in danger. Besides growing up in the streets of Los Angeles, over the years he has worked as the director of a correctional institute, bodyguard, bouncer, cooler and security at events with a daily gate of 30,000. His main skill, however, is to find the easiest and best way to handle violent situations. His ability to talk down and resolve situations that were about to become violent grew, and it became of greater use for surviving in the dangerous situations he often found himself in. Since the age of 10, he has studied several styles of martial arts. That was over forty years of training and application in violent situations.
He's retired from hands-on duty and lives in Colorado with his wife Dianna, where he writes, lectures, and teaches internationally. He teaches personal safety and self-defense to the public, defensive tactics to law enforcement and the military. MacYoung began to write about street self-defense in 1989 when he sat down to make up a small booklet for his students. Eighteen books and five videos later, he is considered one of the leading experts on the subject of surviving high-risk situations. His works are used by individuals, academies, schools, police departments and military academies around the world. His video Safe in the Street and its five stages of violent crime system have become an internationally recognized standard for teaching personal safety.
Marc founded No Nonsense Self-Defense, a company dedicated to providing education about crime and violence. It provides a wide range of services from expert witness (violence reconstruction) writing, instructional DVDs, teaching, lectures and a free Website that covers a wide spectrum of topics to keep you and your loved ones safe -- as well as protect your property.
He is a writer at Conflict Communications and an i:Defensive tactics instructor, de-escalation, force physics.
Marc is availiable as an expert witness in regard to claims of self defense, and his expertise is applicable to different types of court cases from assault to work place violence.
Mr. Mandic is a highly accomplished finance executive with over 20 years of global experience within the banking industry. He has held senior level positions with banking giants such as Barclays, Citigroup and KPMG.
He spent three years working in London as Executive Director Head of corporate finance for Barclay's Global Retail and Commercial Bank where he executed several successful corporate finance deals in the US, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Since Returning to the U.S. Mr. Mandic started his own consulting and venture capital firm focused on providing financing and advisory services to start ups. He has serviced clients in the security, energy, telecom, construction and pharmaceutical industries. He is also a C.P.A.
Michael A. Marino
Michael Marino spent 35 years in the New York City Police Department retiring at the rank of Deputy Chief, Executive Officer of Patrol Borough, Staten Island, overseeing over 2,000 police personnel in daily police dispatch and criminal investigation operations.
Chief Marino achieved a series of career advancements and discretionary promotions within the New York City Police Department during his 35 year career. In that time, he completed 35 years on the job with 29 of those years being in a supervisory position. During his career, he received 77 citations for bravery, meritorious service and police duty excellence as well as being recognized as the City of New York's "Police Officer of the Year" in 2000. Chief Marino offers an extensive track record in planning and managing investigations, security intelligence and police force activities/personnel. He also has a proven track record of successful coordination of patrol, detective, narcotics, vice and other ancillary units resulting in a year after year progression of crime reduction. In addition, Chief Marino served as coordinator for a multi-governmental, multi-agency taskforce in the recovery effort for Hurricane Sandy in Staten Island, New York.
Chief Marino holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the State University of New York. He holds a Federal Counter-Terrorism Certificate and is trained in Counter-Terrorism, Criminal Investigation (including forensics and crime scene analysis), Auto Crime and Advanced Management Training. Chief Marino is skilled in conflict resolution and is also an experienced expert witness.
Colonel Walter Rant II
Colonel Rant is a 1980 graduate (BS) of St. Peter’s University and a 1992 graduate (MEd) of Widener University. He is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College. He has served in operational and command assignments up to Brigade level. Colonel Rant’s service was divided between active and reserve duty. Colonel Walter Rant retired on 28 May 2010 from the United States Army after 30 years of service. His final assignment was chief instructor for the Summer Leaders Experience, Admissions Dept., United States Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY.
Upon his departure from the regular Army, Colonel Rant entered service as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Colonel Rant continued his military service in a reserve status while undertaking his federal law enforcement career. He has conducted and executed global investigations spanning South America, Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. These investigations comprised Money Laundering, Drug Trafficking, Counterterrorism, National Security and Special Operations. Colonel Rant retired 31 December 2015 from the FBI after 20 ½ years of service.
Frederick J. Rast
Frederick J. Rast is a Licensed Private Detective in the state of New Jersey. His specialty is in surveillance operations, investigations, and high end security details, as well as executive protection. He is the former Mayor of the Borough of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, as well as the former Director of Public Safety of Old Bridge Township, New Jersey, Supervising Security Representative of PSE&G and the Supervisor of Investigations for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office. Mr. Rast was also the Officer in Charge of the Special Investigations Unit of the Camden County Prosecutors Office. These positions only name a few of the prestigious titles held in the field of investigations. He was also a uniformed Police Officer in the Atlantic Highlands, Police Department who also served in the Narcotics Squad of the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office. Mr. Rast also has an extensive military background. He was Active Duty in the U.S. Army and was Detachment Commander 348th Criminal Investigation Division at the United States Army Reserve Unit, Fort Dix, New Jersey. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Military Police Branch “State Guard”, and New Jersey Naval Militia. This is the rank he retired from after 41.5 years of service. In addition to Mr. Rast’s extensive military and civilian police education, he has a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University. Mr. Rast has experience as an expert witness, is skilled in the use of all types of electronic surveillance and has vast experience as an undercover agent in the fields of drug enforcement, gambling, subversive investigations and internal government agency surveillance.
Ms. Semple is a Fellow at the Cyber Security Forum Initiative (CSFI). The Cyber Security Forum Initiative (CSFI) is a non-profit organization headquartered in Omaha, NE and in Washington DC.
Ms. Semple served as Commander- Navy Information Professional at the Office of Secretary of Defense, as well as Deputy Director Command Control Computers Communications (C4), Combined Task Force-Horn of Africa. In that position she managed all aspects of communications including operations, budgets, and daily administration of six divisions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and directed 136-member team composed of both civilian and military personnel. Ms. Semple served as Deputy Director (J6), CJTF-HOA in 2007 and 2008, and was Commanding Officer: Naval Communications Security Material System from 2004-2006. She also served as senior Navy representative for the National Security Agency (NSA) Unified Communications Security Panel.
Bernadette served as Programmer/Financial Budget Analyst: Force Networks Chief of Naval Operations, Washington D.C., where she provided Chief of Naval Operations with global integrated strategic capabilities through planning, programming, budgeting, and 54 billion in equipment procurement. She also served as Military Assistant, United States Department of Defense for over three years where she provided management and guidance to Principal Deputy, Assistant Secretary of Defense Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I) in the Pentagon. Ms. Semple also served as CIO Action Officer, Chief of Naval Operations, and Space Electronic Warfare Directorate where she was principal advisor and budget analyst to Navy’s Chief Information Officer.
Ms. Semple speaks English, French and Italian. She has a B.A. in Economics from College of Holy Cross, M.A. in National Security Affairs, Naval Postgraduate School, Master of Science from Syracuse University, Information Resource, M.A. in Military Science from U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, as well as numerous additional certifications in the fields of security, management and information. Ms. Semple also attained Wounded Warrior status after being severely injured by an enemy combatant on a commercial flight.
Licensed and Bonded Private Investigator: New York State
Alexis Tabak is a notary, undercover operative, and licensed private investigator. She grew up in New York City and went to the Spence School. She attended Vanderbilt University and graduated with a degree in Political Science with a minor in Arabic. She specializes in private sector investigation and high-profile investigative work, which includes matters of insurance, possible counterfeit jewelry, and alleged infidelity.
Alexis served as an investigator for New York City's Department of Investigation where she solved cases involving bribery and corruption of various city agencies. She worked directly under the former Commissioner of that department on a series of special projects. She also played an integral role in criminal prosecutions.
Alexis also worked for an IP Trademark Investigation anti-counterfeiting organization. She is currently a candidate for her Master's at John Jay College in Security Management. Alexis is currently a candidate for the New York City Council of District 2.
Dr. Kenneth M. Testa
Dr. Testa completed his graduate medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. While in his first fellowship he was selected to study advanced techniques in manipulative medicine. After a one year rotating internship at Lutheran Medical Center he completed a five year general surgery residency within Mercy Catholic Health System and Hahnemann University both in Philadelphia and Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City.
After completing his surgical residency he returned to Hahnemann University for a second fellowship of advanced training in cardiothoracic surgery. He then switched his focus to complete his second fellowship in trauma/surgical critical care. He eventually went on to and completed his third fellowship in cosmetic surgery. And is one of the most highly regarded cosmetic surgeons in the greater New York area.
Dr. Testa was one of the medical responders who volunteered in the aftermath of the September 11 attack and upon the disaster occurring in Haiti he immediately traveled there where he stayed and provided medical assistance in the aftermath of the earthquake.
His experience lends to both our protective services (some companies utilize emt's or paramedics few have trauma surgeons available for protective details) and our medical malpractice investigations.
